The yellow liquid you vomit is your stomach juice. So vomiting yellow in eight months of pregnancy is quite common. This happens in the early morning before you haven’t taken your breakfast or repeatedly vomiting after getting up from sleep.

This liquid contains active enzymes and acids that help your food digest. But when you’re on an empty stomach and have not taken any food, you throw up some of these juices. And, most of your vomiting will be yellow or greenish-yellow in color. Sometimes, you may vomit clear mucus after drinking water on an empty stomach.

As your body adjusts to new physical changes, you will experience some common symptoms during pregnancy: morning sickness or reflux. Nausea and morning sickness will worsen during the first trimester, and as your pregnancy advances, these symptoms may ease. But for, some women will have morning sickness and nausea throughout their pregnancy.

How to deal with yellow vomiting during pregnancy?

If you are eight months pregnant and still dealing with morning sickness, take some light foods before you leave your bed to avoid vomiting stomach liquids. Try a handful of almonds or cashews, a banana, or a few biscuits. If possible, you can snack on it when you wake up in the middle of the night.

And staying hydrated is essential during pregnancy, so keep drinking water. Remember, I prefer drinking water at smaller intervals rather than drinking large amounts at once. Try to keep a bottle of water by your bed so you can take a sip when you wake in the middle of the night.

If you are not interested in drinking plain water, try soda or ginger tea, or you can also have mint tea if your taste buds ask for flavors.

Moreover, after vomiting in the early morning, you may experience a bitter or metallic taste in your mouth. And, don’t brush your teeth immediately after vomiting. Because stomach acids can soften tooth enamel, it’s best to wait a while to avoid causing damage to your enamel.

Instead of rinsing your mouth with plain water, add a few lemon drops or suck an ice cube to relieve it.

When to consult the doctor?

Experiencing extreme morning sickness is called hyperemesis gravidarum (HG). Without getting sick or losing weight, you may have HG if you vomit multiple times a day.

Consult your doctor immediately if you:

  • See brownish blood or vomiting blood
  • Vomiting many times a day
  • Feel fainting or weak
  • Have blurry vision
  • Have pain in your ribs
  • See swelling in your face, hands, or feet
  • Unable to keep food or drink down for 24 hours or

Though there are medicines to ease the symptoms, it is always better to keep in touch with your doctor.

Bottom line

The problem is not vomiting or nausea; you cannot keep food down. If you and your baby do not get enough nutrition, it can lead to other health issues. To avoid further complications, consult your doctor or a nutritionist about how to manage your food intake.
