Miscarriage on pregnancy is very common. There are a few common pregnancy symptoms that most pregnant women experience in their pregnancy journey. Sore breasts, nausea, morning sickness, backache, mild abdominal cramps, etc., are early pregnancy symptoms. 

These symptoms may subside by the fourth or fifth month of pregnancy. But some pregnant women feel anxiety when they experience a few symptoms like light spotting, more vaginal discharge, abdominal cramps, and backaches. Of course, these symptoms are pretty normal, but they could be worrisome sometimes. 

In medical terms, miscarriage is called “spontaneous abortion. Miscarriage naturally occurs before the 20th week of pregnancy. Some women experience severe back pain, abdominal pain, and vomiting, while others can not even realize that they are pregnant and have had miscarriages in their early weeks. 

Research says that about 20% of pregnant women globally end their pregnancies due to miscarriage in their first trimester. Most miscarriages may happen due to improper development of the fetus. It is helpful to know about the loss of pregnancy symptoms at six weeks of pregnancy to be on the safe side.

Vaginal Bleeding

Vaginal bleeding is a sign of a miscarriage at six weeks of pregnancy. Yet, there are types of bleeding that may vary. Some women may experience heavy bleeding, while some bleed with clots, and others may have light bleeding. 

Surprisingly, some pregnant women may bleed during pregnancy but will not have miscarriages. If you experience light bleeding or spotting, you need not worry. But bleeding accompanied by severe pelvis pain, back pain, abdominal cramps, nausea, or vomiting, consult your doctor immediately. She will perform an ultrasound scan and let you know whether it is a miscarriage or just an infection. 

Severe Cramps

Severe abdomen pain and vaginal bleeding can also be a symptom of an ectopic pregnancy. It occurs when a fertilized egg burrows itself outside the uterus. 90% of ectopic pregnancy happens due to embryo implantation in one of the fallopian tubes.  

Sharp pain at six weeks of pregnancy should be considered a serious condition, especially if the pain is only on one side of the abdomen. So, if you feel anything abnormal, talk to your doctor immediately. 

Causes of Miscarriage at 6 weeks of pregnancy

The common causes of miscarriage at six weeks of pregnancy may be age, mental health conditions, genes, or chromosomes.  

  1. Genes or Chromosomes: 50% of miscarriages can happen because of extra or missing chromosomes and parents’ inherited problems.
  1. Health Conditions: The pregnant mothers’ health condition may also lead to miscarriage. Health issues like depression, uncontrollable diabetes, hormonal problems, uterus problems, and thyroid disease can cause early miscarriage. 
  2. Age: Women over 35 to 40 are at higher risk of miscarriage. 

Bottom Line

There is nothing to do to prevent a miscarriage. So, by taking good care of yourself by consuming a healthy diet, doing regular exercise, and going for regular health checkups, you can have a healthy pregnancy. 

Call your doctor if you notice any loss of pregnancy symptoms, such as vaginal bleeding, spotting, cramping, and severe pain at six weeks of pregnancy.
