[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Ectopic pregnancy is a condition in which a fertilized egg implants outside the uterus, most commonly in a fallopian tube.  Ectopic pregnancy is sometimes called as a tubal pregnancy that occurs in about 1 in 100 pregnancies. This is a life-threatening condition that requires immediate medical attention. Women with a history of endometriosis, a prior ectopic pregnancy, pelvic inflammatory disease, and tubal surgery may have increased risk of getting ectopic pregnancy. If you have an ectopic pregnancy, you may experience symptoms such as

  • Pain on one side of your abdomen
  • Mild cramping
  • Gas pain
  • Shoulder pain
  • Fallopian tube pain
  • Abnormal bleeding

Ectopic Pregnancy PainSymptoms of ectopic pregnancy that cause severe pain:

Mild cramping: A pregnant woman may experience mild to severe cramping at different stages of pregnancy. Mild cramping during early pregnancy is common and normal, but severe cramping and bleeding can be a sign of miscarriage or an indication of ectopic pregnancy pain. Cramping can be on one side, and you may feel them like menstrual cramps. Mild cramping in early pregnancy will be minimized by increasing the water consumption and adopting a diet for a healthy pregnancy.

Pain on one side: One of the causes of pain on one side in a pregnant woman can be an ectopic pregnancy pain. Pain on one side may range from mild to severe. You may feel the pain like a dull ache on one side of the abdomen and also an intense shooting sensation. Once the tube is ruptured, the pain will become more severe.

Gas pain: Physical and hormonal changes which occur during pregnancy may increase the risk of gas pain. If you experience severe gas pain in the early pregnancy do not dismiss this, as it is an indication of ectopic pregnancy pain, which needs immediate medical attention.

Shoulder pain: Shoulder pain generally occurs when you are lying down and is a sign that the ectopic pregnancy is causing internal bleeding. Shoulder pain is caused by bleeding into the abdomen under the diaphragm. The shoulder and neck pain in pregnancy is a “red flag” for an ectopic rupture.

Fallopian tube pain: If an ectopic pregnancy is allowed to grow, it can rupture the fallopian tube. When the fallopian tube ruptures and causes internal bleeding, you may experience severe pain. This is an emergency as the bleeding is heavy.

Abnormal vaginal bleeding: Vaginal bleeding is the warning sign of ectopic pregnancy pain. Vaginal bleeding in ectopic pregnancy may be heavier than bleeding seen in intrauterine pregnancy. Brown spotting or light bleeding may accompany an ectopic pregnancy. It often starts and stops, and can be bright and dark red in color. If you have abnormal vaginal bleeding, you should report this to your doctor[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Also Read: Ectopic Pregnancy: Symptoms, Causes, Risks and Treatment[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
