Being a pregnant woman there exisit lots of benefits of swimming, and elders will tell you not to do this and that whenever you turn around to do something. 

You may be facing a lot of things you shouldn’t do during your pregnancy. Of course, you know everything you need to do like eating, sleeping and doing regular exercises. But sometimes, it looks complicated to figure out how much is required and in which way you need to do it. 

For example, let’s talk about swimming. Is it safe to do? Huh, yes!

It’s the best exercise to perform during pregnancy. Here we’ve curated more information for those who have decided to swim while pregnant. 

Is swimming safe for pregnant women?

American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists says that women can do swimming by taking required safety measures during pregnancy. However, water skiing, diving, and scuba diving are not recommended as they can increase the risk of injury. Even swimming is an approved exercise during in vitro fertilization (IVF), providing various health benefits.

Swimming is the safest exercise that strengthens the muscles. It is also considered a safe workout in the third trimester by not keeping more stress on your body. 

Benefits of Swimming on Pregnancy- Things to Consider

Yet swimming is usually considered a safe exercise during pregnancy; women with certain medical conditions are not recommended to do this exercise, as it can lead to other major complications. If you have any concerns, it is better to discuss them with your doctor before changing your exercise plan. 

Watch your temperature

Avoid swimming is very water during pregnancy as it can raise your body temperature. Because experts suggest that temperature should not rise above 102.2°F (39°C), as it may cause harm to your growing baby. Limiting bathing in hot tubs, hot springs, or even hot baths during pregnancy is best. 

Moderate Exercise

Remember to consider a few safety issues while swimming during pregnancy. It is necessary to do it in moderation and avoid exertion while swimming. Moreover, there will be little risk of falling, so perform the exercise under the guidance of your trainer or coach. 

Chlorinated Pools

It is completely safe to swim in chlorinated pools. But, make sure that the water you swim in is clean and won’t put you at risk of any sicknesses.

Low-impact swimming during pregnancy will keep you healthy and prepare your body for labor. Besides, there are also other health benefits which include –

  • Relieves back pain
  • It helps to keep you cool while exercising
  • The buoyancy takes the pressure off your baby bump and lowers your back, providing much-needed relief
  • Enhances blood circulation
  • Relieves lower limb swelling and discomfort
  • Strengthens core abdominal muscles
  • Prevents diastasis recti
  • Improves cardiovascular health
  • Shortens the labor
