Pregnancy Complications

Pregnancy complications are a group of conditions that can occur during pregnancy. These include preterm labor, gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, and others.

Pregnancy is a time of increased vulnerability for both mom and baby. The risk of complications increases with the mother’s age and other factors such as obesity, hypertension, pre-existing diabetes, and poor nutrition.

The most common complication is preterm labor (labor before 37 weeks). This can happen in about 10% to 20% of pregnancies. Other complications include gestational diabetes (diabetes during pregnancy), preeclampsia (high blood pressure), placenta previa (low-lying placenta), placental abruption (premature separation from the uterine wall), and pregnancy-induced hypertension syndrome.
