Microblading is a modern technique, with the help of which many women are able to achieve perfectly shaped brows of ideal thickness and darkness. One less thing to worry about, when getting your regular makeup done.

Microblading is recommended to those who have issues with their eyebrows that keep bothering them, leading to low self esteem. Or you may want to get them fixed, so as to accentuate your facial features in a natural way. But, microblading is not recommended if you are expecting or breastfeeding because of the possible side effects.

While this form of beauty treatment surely seems like a revolutionary way of getting some makeup out of your hands, given the busy schedule, it is not the right time when you are planning to have a baby. Find out how microblading process might affect you and the foetus during pregnancy.

Microblading in Pregnancy

Chemicals

Even though microblading is temporary, different chemicals are used in the pigmentation process of eyebrows. There is not much research on how much pigment enters the blood stream of the expecting woman and how it may affect the foetus. In case of breastfeeding moms, there is no known data regarding the amount of pigment that may get into milk consumed by the baby.

Risk of Infection

Since microblading involves using multiple needles to penetrate the outer layers to add pigmentation, there is a possibility of infection. Even though the treatment is done by reputed professionals, pregnant women should not take the chance, because if the needles are not sterilised thoroughly, there is a chance of contacting serious diseases such as HIV or Hepatitis B.

Painful Issue

If women experience pain during microblading, then the cosmetic professionals may prescribe medications or numbing creams to help with the pain. Exposure to these medications during pregnancy may cause serious harm to the foetus. Same goes for women who are nursing their babies.

Hormones

Pregnant women undergo various hormonal changes during different stages. This causes you bleed more during the microblading process. If you bleed more, the pigmentation is not properly deposited into the skin, leading to unsatisfactory results.

Bloating

During pregnancy, due to fluid retention and bloating, your skin appears stretchy and this may change the end result of microblading procedure, once your facial features get back to normal shape.

Discoloring

Because of hormonal changes, some of you may experience dark pigmentation on your face. This can affect the color selection for microblading. Finally, when you get back your color, the eyebrow pigmentation may not match your skin, making it appear odd.

In pregnancy, it is best not to opt for microblading, so as to avoid having to worry about the side effects on you and your baby constantly. You may get back to the treatment when you no longer have to breastfeed your baby.
