85% of the women who are sexually active don’t use any kind of contraception, which is the reason why they become pregnant within a short time period. This can even occur immediately after the delivery. Not using any kind of ways to prevent pregnancy can even increase the chances of becoming pregnant during breastfeeding also.

Nowadays preventing pregnancy is not a big problem because of the availability of several best ways to prevent pregnancy. Some of those are clinical methods and some are natural ways.

Some of the best ways to prevent pregnancy are not only proposed for women but also aimed for men. Here are some of the best ways to prevent pregnancy for women:

1. Oral contraceptives:

Contraception method can prevent pregnancy by using hormonal combinations of estrogen and progesterone. Contraceptives should be taken every day as prescribed and they help to stop ovulation. Contraceptive pills have some side effects such as a headache, nausea, breast tenderness, weight gain, depression, and abnormal bleeding.

2. Diaphragm:

The diaphragm is a soft, shallow and dome-shaped device that fits tightly in the vagina and covers the cervix. Diaphragm contains a spermicide that can immobilize or kill the sperm and inhibit from entering into the uterus and also fertilizing with the egg. When diaphragm used correctly, it is one of the best ways to prevent pregnancy as well as protect against various STDs such as Chlamydia and gonorrhea. Also, you are at reduced risk of some pelvic inflammatory diseases as well as cervical dysplasia. It is safer when compared to contraceptives and IUDs, but they are not as effective to prevent unwanted pregnancy.

3. Intra uterine device (IUD):

It is a T-shaped device placed in your uterus by your gynecologist. The device can stay for a certain period of5-10 years. IUD prevents pregnancy through inhibiting sperm movement as the copper ion containing fluids that are poisonous to sperm. In case the fertilization takes place, the device provides an environment that can prevent the implantation process.

4. Implants:

They work in the same way as contraceptive pills. It is a small and thin elastic rod, holds a hormone, which helps prevent pregnancy. The implant is 4cm in length and prepared from plastic. The device is placed beneath the skin of the inside of the arm. The device should be inserted by an experienced doctor. After inserting the device, it starts releasing the hormone which can prevent pregnancy for at least three years. By the end of the third year, it should be removed and if you want to place another, you can do it with the help of a doctor. After IUD, implants are one of the best ways to prevent pregnancy.

5. Depo-Provera:

It is a birth control shot injected into the muscle of the arm or buttocks. These shots should be taken for every three months. These shots will release a hormone called progestin that prevents pregnancy.
