The uterus or womb is a reproductive organ made up of different types of cells. Uterus can be affected by a number of conditions or there may be anomalies in the growth of uterine cells. When the womb or any part of reproductive system is affected, it is known as uterine condition or problem.

Experts warn that most women ignore discomfort or heavy bleeding, believing it to be normal, but these signs can indicate a serious underlying condition of the uterus. Although most problems related to uterus are not considered dangerous and are easily treatable, there is possibility of certain conditions that can get severe and life-threatening. It is always better to seek medical advice when you observe any abnormal changes and get proper treatment.

Symptoms of Uterine Problems

Some of the common medical problems affecting the uterus include fibroids, uterine prolapse, adenomyosis, endometriosis and cancer. Symptoms related to uterine problems are similar in most cases. Here are some of the symptoms to lookout for.

Symptoms of Uterine Problems

  • Irregular periods
  • Heavy or abnormal menstrual periods
  • Change in regular vaginal discharge or abnormal discharge
  • Periods that last longer than seven days
  • Pelvic pressure
  • Pain in lower abdominal area and pelvic area, which may extend to lower back and abdomen.
  • Inflammation of abdomen
  • Increase in severity of period cramps
  • Pain in rectal area
  • Pain and discomfort during intercourse
  • Frequent urination or difficulty in emptying bladder
  • Urinary tract infections or bladder infections that are recurrent
  • Post-intercourse bleeding
  • Chronic constipation and difficulty in bowel movement
  • Exhaustion and fever
  • Difficulty in conceiving
  • Leg cramps or backache

Depending on the condition and cause, uterine problems may be treated using thyroid regulating hormonal pills or birth control pills. In more serious conditions, hormone therapy or surgery may be required.
